Boardsmill ladies continued their impressive form in this years championship with a convincing win against a well fancied St Ultans side at Sean Newmnan Park on Wednesday evening.

The winners started brightly and recorded 2 early points from Edel guy and a third from Emma Troy after impressive interplay from defence through to their forwards .Shauna Bennett replied for St Ultans before Bennett and Laura Dempsey exchanged further points to leave the score 4 point to 2 in favour of Boardsmill at the end of the first quarter. St Ultans had sufficient opportunity to be level or ahead at this stage but resolute defending from Boardsmill forced 6 wides from their hosts during this period

Boardsmill then took a stranglehold on the game and recorded further points from Laura Bagnall , Dempsey ( 1 free) Edel Guy and the ever impressive Aoibhin Cleary , before Emma Troy collected a cross field pass and crashed her shot to the net . Boardsmill were then guilty of profligacy in front of the St Ultans posts and recorded 3 quick wides as the half time whistle approached. There was still time for Nuala O Brien in the home goals to save well at the feet of Edel Guy . Gerry McGivney blew for half time with the south meath girls ahead 1.08 to 0.2.

St Ultans were forced to withdraw Irene Munnelly at the start of the second half and reshuffled their defence as they turned around to face the breeze. Laura Dempsey forced another save from O Brien in the opening seconds of the 2nd period before Cleary raided forward from half back to score her second point. St Ultans rallied with a pointed free from Katie O Brien and a soon raised a second white flag though full forward Murray. The game was opening up at this stage as a fast pitch and warm temperatures began to take their toll on both teams . Dempsey scored a fine long range point before player of the game Laura Bagnall cut in from the left to lob her shot to the rIght corner of the St Ultans net .

Dempsey then set up Michelle Peel for a simple score before Bagnall pointed again. Boardsmill introduced Becky O Toole with 10 minutes remaining as they looked to close out the game . The visitors had keeper Eimear Murray to thank for a fine save from Katie O Brien as the home side looked for goals to reduce the deficit . Elaine Duffy popped over a point for the Bohermeen outfit before Laura Dempsey pointed a free from 25 metres .
The final few minutes saw Boardsmill record 2 further goals from Aoibhin Cleary and the ever dependable Edel Guy . In truth both shots crept under the bar and somewhat flattered the winners . Try as they might the home side could not penetrate a very effective defensive display from the visitors and had to be satisfied with 2 further points before the referee called full time with the score St Ultans 0.7 Boardsmill 4.13

Boarsdmill will take great heart from this display and must surely look forward to a semifinal slot later this summer . They will need to maintain this form and work rate as tougher challenges will undoubtedly lie ahead . Their hosts for one , will need no further motivation should they meet again in the knockout phase of the championship .

Boardsmill were best served by Laura Bagnall and Aoibhin Cleary while Edel Guy , Katie Hackett , Eimear Murray, Helen Regan and Emma Troy contributing to an outstanding team performance .
