JFC: Curraha's good form continues

April 23, 2014

Curraha's David Toner
Curraha 3-08
Summerhill 1-07

A strong second half performance from Curraha ensured that they would stay unbeaten for the year as well as topping their Championship group after two wins from two.

The sides were level at the break despite Curraha having the slight wind advantage but a determined young side saw out Summerhill at Bective by 7 points. Curraha stated the game brightly with the Coyle brothers Gavin and David pointing but Summerhill responded well with three unanswered points before a David Toner free had the teams back level again. A well worked move from defence saw Meath Under 21 star Neil Shortall get on the end of goal opportunity which he duly obliged by rocketing it to the Summerhill net. Again Summerhill responded with points and David Dunne point had the team's level at the break 1-04 to 0-7.

Curraha came out all guns blazing in the second half and kept Summerhill scoreless until injury time of the second half when they scored a consolation goal. A Toner point along with a fine solo score form James McEntee had Curraha two points ahead and seven minutes in Curraha were awarded a penalty which was missed but Toner followed up the rebound to put Curraha 5 in front. They never looked back after this and were well in control especially with Conor Joyce and Kevin Mallon hold the defence. Another Toner point and goal had the game well wrapped up before Shortall got a free just before Summerhill got their first score of the second half thanks to the goal.

Best for the winning team were Mallon, Joyce, Toner and Sean O'Hanrahan.
