JFC: Bective slump to Simonstown

Bective's Ben Malone gets in his pass against Simonstown in the Meath JFC game at Kilberry
Simonstown Gaels 2-13
Bective 0-11

Bective's hopes of bridging a 17-year gap since our last championship honours took a blow when Simonstown ran out eight-point winners in the Group C opener at Kilberry on Saturday.

With a fairly strong breeze favouring Davy Cahill's lads in the first half, a half-time lead would have been expected and things started well enough with Junior Championship debutant Paraic McConnell and a Marty Mulhall free putting Bective two points up.

Mulhall added three from play and Paul Lyness also registered a point to keep Bective in the ascendancy.

However, things took a bad turn after 15 minutes when midfielder Ciaran Reilly was black-carded.

A goal from Ian O'Rourke compounded that blow and Simonstown led by a point (1-4 to 0-6) at the turnaround.

It was one-way traffic for much of the second half with Gaels tagging on nine points on top of a fine goal.
