BFL1: Dunshaughlin and Skryne draw

Skryne 1-10

A switch of venue made by the hierarchy in Aras Tailteann meant that it was Skryne who had to forfeit home advantage and make the short trip up the road to Dunshaughlin in this local Div 1 B League encounter.

The joint management combination of Graham Dowd and Martin Reilly were left scratching their heads in disbelief and forced to make a few changes from the previous weeks match due to Lagores very own version of a scene from 'the dukes of hazzard" that seen Danny 'the sheeben' Geraghty and James Rattigan side lined from broken fingers and bad 'broozing' last Wednesday after a poorly executed knick knack backfired on them. It was the black and amber that made the better start to the game after just one minute of play with Shane Gallogly converting from a free in the first minute of the game and 6 minutes later a fine individual score off the left foot from Gallogly again put Dunshaughlin two up.

However Skryne were getting their hands on a lot of possession and some sloppy play from Dunshaughlin meant the Tara men were always going to be a threat and had it not been for the brilliance of veteran goalkeeper Ronan Gogan it could easily had been a goal for Skryne after he denied veteran full forward Brian 'red lad' Smith a minute later. Skryne however took great heart from this and it was now only going to be a matter of time before they scored and they got their just rewards in the 13th minute when the green flag was raised and they pushed on from here to score two Alan Carthy points in the 14th ad 15th minutes to have them now leading by four.

From here on Dunshaughlin now knew they were in a game and battled valiantly and it was youngster Niall Byrne who got in on the goal scoring with him finding the back of the Skryne net after 20 mins of play.

Another Shane Gallogly point and another point and his first of the night from centre forward Ronan Geraghty put Dunsaughlin back in the game as half time was approaching. Dunshaughlin could very easily have extended their lead after what seemed like a goal certainty somehow did not manage to find the back of the Skryne but thankfully a converted Marty Reilly free on the stroke of half time had the black and amber back leading by two as the first half drew to a close.

Skryne very much meant business as the second half started and scored 4 points in a row before Gary 'the hitman' Flanagan got his first of the night after some good build up play and it looked as though the momentum was with the men from Tara with Dunshaughlin just not able to work any scores with a combination of poor decision making from shots that were never on and an inability to get their passing game going. This was all to change thankfully for Dunshaughlin on the 20th minute when substitute Stephen Ward unleashed a screamer of shot that almost burst the Skryne net that only the hugely talented Ward could score that remarkably had the home side leading with 10 minutes left of football.

Skryne however dug deep and once again found themselves in the lead after two unanswered points but a Niall Byrne fisted point on the 29th minute levelled things once again with injury time fast approaching. In the end both teams will feel they could have played way better but a draw was probably the fairest result with Shane Gallogly having a good first half with Ronan Gogan, David Dunne and Niall Byrne showing best for Dunshaughlin.
