Dunshaughlin 1-11
Donaghmore /Ashbourne 0-10

Dunshaughlin gained two more valuable league points last night over local rivals Donaghmore /Ashbourne in an A League encounter played away in Ashbourne.

With both sides fielding weakened sides due to injury and exams it was Dunshauhglin who got off to a brighter start with 3 Cathal O' Dwyer scores the opening one being a smart score from play and the other two being converted frees to put them up by 3 points after 7 minutes of football.

The men from Ashbourne responded smartly to the Dunshaughlin resurgence with 2 points in the 10th and 13th minutes before Dunshaughlins Conor Devereux coolly slotted a 45 to once again put the black and amber in front by two. Another converted O'Dwyer free who was causing the Donaghmore/Ashbourne full back line a serious headache and a fantastic Niall Murphy goal in the 26th minute left Dunshaughlin leading by double scores at half time.

The second half commenced with Donaghmore/Ashbourne starting the half brightly with 2 unanswered points to cut Dunshaughlins lead to 2 before Conor Devereux opened Dunshaughlins account with a smart left footed score after 5 minutes. Both sides were guilty of missing some scorable chances but it was Donaghmore/Ashbourne who the momentum was with as the game reached the 45th minute with them registering 2 points on the bounce to now leave just 3 points between the teams.

They say a week is a long time in football but 14 years is even longer with David McCormack making his A League comeback and starting to get onto a lot of breaking balls with this vital procession being converted into scores with 3 more scores from corner forward O'Dwyer and another from Conor Devereux to leave the tie never in any doubt with Dunsaughlin finishing up with 4 points to spare.

Dunshaughlin will be very happy with this victory as Ashbourne has not been a happy stomping ground for the black and amber for the past few years with some good performances by Cathal O' Dwyer, Conor Devereux, Niall Murphy while the full back line looked very composed throughout the game.
