MFL1: Ratoath power to victory

May 17, 2013

Joey Wallace - 1-12 against Simonstown
Ratoath 4-15
Simonstown 3-8

In the Minor league Div.1 match on Tuesday 14th May Ratoath started well with goals from Midfielder Gavin McGowan followed by a lob over head by Joey Wallace to go ahead before Simonstown started scoring.

Simonstown did as expected fight back and were only a couple of points behind Ratoath despite playing into a strong wind. However with good supply from Gavin McGowan and Keith Mc Cabe , both influential Meath Minors, operating as Ratoath midfielders and Dara Byrne Ratoath kept the pressure on.

Up front Joey Wallace continued his impressive Meath Minor form and gave an exhibition of full forward play rattling in a succession of points despite been marked by 2 or 3 defenders putting Ratoath into a 3-10 to 1-5 lead at half time. Joey eventually ended up with an incredible personal tally of 1-12 of which 1-11 was from play. A goal from Conor Duncan pushed the lead on further.

Now with the strong wind behind them Simonstown came back strongly in the second half. Solid tight defending particularly by Conor Fitzpatrick and Tom Eiffe kept the lead from falling. Brian Daly set up some good counter-attacks and with an excellent goal from Keith Mc Cabe and another 4 points from Joey Wallace Ratoath maintained their lead
