Tyrone captain Kieran McGeary feels there is no point looking beyond Sunday’s FL1 opener against Meath at Healy Park.

The Ulster side are favourites to start the campaign with a win, but for Geary, he is taking a more cautious approach and knows that the Royals will be targeting a win also.

“Division One is very competitive and fixtures are what they are,” Geary told the Ulster Herald. “You can play anyone at home and still end up getting beat. We have a lot of tough games coming up but we wouldn’t be looking past Meath this Sunday.

“It may be the first outing but there are two vital points up for grabs and we will be ready for the challenge that Meath bring us.”

Geary points to the qualifier clash between the sides at Navan in 2018 when Tyrone were relieved to come away with an extra-time victory and the Tyrone defender feels that it could be a similar game.

“That day in Navan was extremely scary and we were lucky to get out of there with a win. It was a severe test but it was a win that stood to us and we were able to go all the way to the All-Ireland final.”

The Allianz Football and Hurling Leagues are back this weekend and so is the Hogan Stand Match Tracker. Join us on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon for live score and updates from the opening rounds.
