Presidents Award for Nick Fitzgerald

January 16, 2020

Kildalkey's Nick Fitzgerald

Kildalkey Hurling and Camogie Club are pleased to advise that Nick Fitzgerald will be a recipient for Gradaim an Uachtaráin 2019 which will be presented at a special banquet in Croke Park.

These prestigious annual awards, organised with the support of Club Championship sponsors AIB and broadcast by TG4, affords Uachtarán CLG with an opportunity to acknowledge outstanding commitment and long service across the club, and county network.

Nick Fitzgerald hail’s from St Molleran’s Hurling & Football Club in Waterford where he played both codes for his club and his county, 1998 he moved to London where he worked for 13 years and played and trained with the Robert Emmett’s Hurling Club.

Since moving to the village of Kildalkey in 2002, he has immersed himself in the local GAA club. Kildalkey are a club that have seen plenty of bad times during their long history and it is fair to say that these have outweighed the good times and up until 2009 they just had one senior hurling championship title to their credit.

Nick was a player and selector in the three in a row winning team of 2009 to 2012.

He became Chairperson of the club development committee in 2010 at a time of significant infrastructure changes, from then to present, developments include a new 2nd Full size grass pitch, A state of the art Hurling wall and Artificial Training Facility. This appointment was then followed by his appointment as Club Chairperson in 2015, a position he still holds today.

Nick is also a well-respected Referee and was presented with ‘Referee of the Year' in 2013 following his appointment to the Meath Senior Hurling Final.

In 2017, he steered Meath to an All-Ireland minor B Championship, with a win over Down, made sweeter with the inclusion of three Kildalkey youngsters, including his son, Evan.

In 2017, Nick was ratified as the Meath Senior Hurling Manager, culminating in Christy Ring success in 2019 where again both his sons were involved with Evan on the panel and Conor part of his support team.

Nick has had many successes in his GAA Life coupled with running a very accomplished business from bases in Kildare and London.

We feel The President’s Award is well deserved, when you consider his influence over different aspects within the GAA organisation and in particular our little club, Kildalkey Hurling & Camogie Club.

I’m sure there is plenty more to come from him in the future.

Speaking for the Village of Kildalkey and our GAA Club, we are very proud to say that he is one of ours.

Congratulation’s to not only Nick but also his wife Angela and their kids for their support in him for what he does.
