A day that Ratoath thought they would never see. Ciaran O Fearraigh and Garreth Rooney raise the Keegan Cup at Pairc Tailteann

Delegates from three clubs, Summerhill, Trim and Moylagh, beaten in football finals recently, congratulated the winners and wished them the best in provincial competitions.

Summerhill’s John Shaw in congratulating Ratoath on their Keegan Cup success said it was an ‘honest to God’ game and Ratoath were fully deserving of their victory.

In response Andy Fahy (Ratoath) said his club was formed in 1903 and he never thought that he would see the day the Keegan Cup would be in Ratoath.

“I cannot express in words what it means to Ratoath,” he continued. “I thought nobody liked us, but we were overwhelmed with the amount of messages, texts and phone calls we received from every club in Meath.

“We were privileged to play Summerhill in the final, they are the essence of what a Meath club is all about and hopefully we will be as good as them some day.”

Fahy paid tribute to a number of people in Ratoath who had worked so hard over many years but didn’t live to see the club lift the senior title. He also said they would be giving Leinster ‘our best shot.’

Larry McEntee (Nobber) thanked the County Board for facilitating the intermediate presentation on the Pairc Tailteann pitch following their win over Trim.

Carnaross delegate Malachy Plunkett said he was disappointed that the replay of the junior decider between Clann na nGael and Moylagh wasn’t played at a north Meath venue instead of Ashbourne.
