Dunderry's Declan Mahon

Dunderry 1-9  Ballivor 0-10

Clann na nGael in Athboy hosted this Junior C Championsip semi final on wet Sunday morning. Great credit to the ground staff in Athboy for having the pitch in great playing condition despite heavy rainfall all weekend.

Dunderry and Ballivor both came into the game in fine form and both teams brimming with confidence.

A nice mixture of youth and experience on both sides would allow for an extremely enjoyable game in testing conditions.

Dunderry started brighter racing to 0-3 to 0-0 lead with fine scores from Tomas O'Conaire, Alex Walsh and Gary Clarke. Ballivor soon woke up and notched 6 unanswered points in a 15 minute spell. In turn Dunderry got back on track to claw back level with another Clarke point and 2 fine points from play by Declan Mahon.

Ballivor edged back in front to leave the half time score 0-7 to 0-6 in their favour.

As per the first half Dunderry started the brighter and got the first 2 scores through the lively Walsh and a Clarke free. But once again Ballivor responded and it was nip and tuck in an excellent game with quality scores and hard hits a plenty.

The intensity rose and the scores were fewer going into the final few minutes, it was Ballivor who held the advantage of a 10-9 lead but with 5 minutes remaining a turnover by the Dunderry forwards lead to the impressive Walsh gathering possession and with pace to burn the sharp shooter who finished with 1-3 raced clear and found the bottom corner with a tidy finish.

That proved to be the last score of the game and Dunderry held on and saw the game out to book a place in the final.

Congratulations to both teams on a fine game.
