JFC D: Castletown unlucky in Pilltown

Castletown went down to St. Colmcilles in this JDFC Round 5 game played in excellent conditions in Pilltown on Saturday evening. This was a game that produced 47 shots at goal between the side with 37 reaping rewards. 

The home side made the better start and were 1-02 up with only 4 minutes on the clock. James Finnerty opened Castletowns account after 8 minutes a point from play followed a minute later with a point from play for Paul Smith. The Cilles got their third point on 10 minutes only for Castletown to score 3 in a row, James Finnerty and Francis Hoey from play and a free from Jamie Mc Mahon to leave 1 between the sides with a quarter of the game gone. The Cilles hit 2 in a row again with Francis Hoey scoring another from play on 22 minutes for Castletown with the cilles responding a minute later. Substitute John Donegan scored next for Castletown a point from play and Francis Hoey scored two from play to three points for the Cilles to finish the half on a scoreline of 1-9 to 0-9 to the home side.

There was 7 minutes in to the second period Castletown when closed the gap to 1 point with points from play for John Donegan and Killian Markey only for the Cilles to score one to leave 2 again between the sides. The clock was ticking down and just over 10 minutes to go Castletown drew level with points from Jamie Mc Mahon a free and William Bellew and Francis Hoey from play to 1 point from the cilles on 49 minutes. But in the 50th minute St. Colmcilles hit their second goal which William Bellew responded to with a point from play to leave three between the sides again. The Cilles then hit 3 in a row to leave it very hard for Castletown to claw back but they tried hard and hit 3 in a row from Killian Markey, William Bellew and Francis Hoey to leave 3 in it again. Paul Smith scored a point on 61 minutes with the eventual winners scoring the last point of the game the finish 3 point to the good on a scoreline of 2-16 to 19 points.
