After losing out to Killyon Longwood in last years decider Ratoath more than made amends with this comprehensive win over Kildalkey/Boardsmill in the Under 16 Division 1 hurling league final played in ideal conditions at a prestine Pairc Tailteann. To view photos from this game click here

Ratoath 2-21 Boardsmill/Kildalkey 1-11

24 hours earlier some of the Ratoath players were on the team that lost out to Kilbride in the U16 Division 3 FL final at Dunganny.

Amazingly both teams lined out in their traditional blue jerseys, the only difference was the gold and white trim.

Boardsmill/Kildalkey got of to a great start and were 1-4 to 0-0 up after 15 minutes. Full forward Ryan Byas was immense for the combination side in this period scoring 1-3. The number 14 was to see a red card towards the end of the game.

Favourites Ratoath slowly worked their way back in to the game and by half time had the lead down to a point, 1-7 to 1-6, thanks to a Rohan Wardick goal, after a goalmouth scramble and some fine points from the impressive Sean Donnelly and Sean Corbett.

Ratoath put the issue beyond doubt in the opening 15 minutes of the second half with a totally dominating display. Boardsmill/Kildalkey had no answer as the winners tagged on 11 points without reply. Donnelly (3), midfielder Ciaran Rogers (3) along with the silky skills of Donal Rogers done most on the damage.

Kildalkey needed to get a grip on the game and the moving of keeper Brian O'Halloran out the field had the desired effect. O'Halloran and Byas (2) narrowed that lead and a comeback looked to be on the cards before Byas was sent to the line by Offaly referee John McDonnell.

Boardsmill/Kildalkey had goal chances but some brilliant saves from Ratoath keeper Roan Conheady kept them at bay. Now with numerical advantage the winners made sure of the game with four brilliant points from Rogers and goal from substitute Matthew Duggan to seal a memorable win.

After the game John Gilmartin presented the U16 Division 1 HL Cup to Ratoath joint captains Cian Smith and Eoin McInerney.
