SFC: Missed opportunity for Seneschalstown

Seneschalstown should have had there first points of the championship but lost out as 14-man Dunshaughlin came back from a 9-point deficit to defeat the Yellow Furze side by a single point.

Dunshaughlin were first on the scoreboard with a point from free from Matthew Costello in the opening minute. Bryan Clarke slotted over a point from free on the 6th minute for Seneschalstown. This was soon followed by a point from Dylan Keating on the 10th minute another from Clarke on the 11th minute of play and another from Adam Carey on the 13th minute. Clarke fisted to the back of the net on the 15th minute and was soon followed by another goal for corner forward Cathal Finnegan on the 16th minute leaving the Yellow Furze side ahead 2-04 to a single point. Dunshaughlin responded with a point from play but was soon cancelled out with a fine point from play from on form Clarke. Seneschalstown conceded 2 frees which Dunshaughlin kicked over the black spot. Keating finished off the scoring of the first half for Seneschalstown with a point from free on the 26th minute. Dunshaughlin got 2 further scores from play before the break of half time leaving 6 points between the sides going into the break. 

Dunshaughlin came out strong in the second half with a point from free and 2 from play before they found the back of the net on the 35th minute leaving the sides level pegging. Clarke kicked over another point from play on the 37th minute however Dunshaughlin hand passed the ball across the square which was then palmed to the back of the net. There was a debate whether this was a square ball, but referee Bernard Heaney deemed the goal to stand. The Yellow Furze side reacted well with 3 points from play from Finnegan, Joe Moore and a monster point from 50 yards out by Joe Sheridan. Substitute Brian Sheridan slotted over the black spot on the 54th minute and was soon followed by another from Alan Mulvany. Unfortunately for Seneschalstown, Dunshaughlin found the back of the net again on the 61st minute. Seneschalstown had more then enough chances to at least earn a draw and share the spoils in this hard-fought entertaining match.
