Drumconrath 0-16 St Colmcilles 1-8
Ah the B League Division 6 at that after 3 attempts to get it played and all falling due to Snow and God knows what else but both Clubs where determined to get this game played, St Colmcilles fielding a 3rd team in both League and Championship for probaly the 1st time in history and Drumconrath doing what the normally do pull out all the stops and get a team on the field.
A game was badly needed despite valient attempts to get Round one played neither Drums or Cilles had a game Drumconrath giving a walk over St Colmcilles recieving one. No addition to anyone.
So Bank holiday Monday of St Patricks weekend was the day chosen and which I'm sure was a task and a half for both clubs but a task that was passed with both sides getting the required numbers for the game to be played.
Drumconrath are sponsored by The Old Thatch and it seemed like most of the team still had their heads in there as The Visitors goaled on 1st attack and pointed on next two to led 1-2 to ziltch.
Larry McEntee was doing, well what any manager would be doing on the line suffice to say his hair line was under threat, but 4 Daniel Byrne points two from frees and two from play along with a Mossy Conlon point straight from "ag cru na boinne" landed another and Larry's "Gruige" was somewhat safe ... for the time being.. at least.
Drums added another 5 points by half time as Byrne x2 Alan Dunne another 2 and Robert McEntaggart pointing while St Colmcilles added one when the corner forward pulled on a loose ball following a good block and the ball skied over. Four in it at the break 0-10 to 1-3.
Drumconrath dominated the 3rd quarter had a bunch of wides and only added 3 points Two Byrne frees and a Mossy special skewed over off some side of his boot (we think).
St Colmcilles had had enough and and with some great improved play set about narrowing the gap and 4 points in a row allied with some good saves from Eoin Muldoon, Drums where lucky to lead by three 0-13 to 1-7.
A fine Daragh Dunne point after a good fast run and another from his father Alan after not too much of a run (Dads are allowed that) eased the storm and a little light between the sides. Both sides added a free to finish what was an entertaining game in Meath's lowest League competition. Roll on the next game.
