Awards: Junior Club Footballer of the Year

December 14, 2018

Dunboyne's Barry Comer

In the end it was Dunboyne's second string that made home with the Peter McDermott Cup.

The bookies opted for Carnaross and Ballivor from the onset but both clubs fell at the semi final. St. Vincents under the shrewd manager Ronan Kearns surprised all by reaching the final. The Ardcath men were unlucky to go under to a very strong Peter's side in the decider after extra time.

Davy Tallon, Ryan Hand and Tommy Field turned in some outstanding consistent performances for the beaten finalists en route. Veteran Dermot McGee, Cian O'Reilly, Frank O'Reilly and rising star Patrick McDermott were consistent for the 'Ross' who finished the year in style with a Tailteann Cup success. Neutrals will tell you that had there been another few minutes in their semi final clash with Dunboyne, Ballivor could well have had taken that final spot. Martin Healy, the McKeon brothers Kevin and Brendan, veteran Joe McLoughlin and Nicholas Potterton played some outstanding football for Ian Kavanagh's side throughout. Pauric Lavin, Colin Clarke, keeper Johnny O'Connor, Darragh Nolan, Steven Moran, Jack Cox and Sean McGrath had some great moments in the Black and Amber of Dunboyne.

We have gone for Dunboyne midfielder Barry Comer as our Junior Club Footballer of the Year. The former London and Meath senior brought all his experiences to bare as St Peters second string claimed silverware. His ball winning abilities and constant encouragement to his team mates were vital to the Peters cause. Outstanding workrate and always chipped in with crucial scores as the Dunboyne made it a memorable year.

Well done Barry
