Team of the U21 football finals

December 11, 2018

Joy for captains Eoghan Ryan and Cian Flynn Dunboyne, Eoin McDonnell Na Fianna, Eric Clancy Ballinabrackey and Conor Kilgallen and Stephen Meegan Kilmainham Drumbaragh.

The Under 21 football championship came to a close last Sunday in Pairc Tailteann. Dunboyne and Na Fianna completed a memorable year while there were also titles for Ballinabrackey and Kilmainham/Drumbaragh. Not to let the occasion pass we have attempted to pick our best XV from the four finals.

Under 21 Final
Dunboyne ........ 3-10
Ratoath ........... 1-11

Under 21 A Final
Na Fianna .....................1-16
St Vincent's/Curraha .......1-10

Under 21 B Final
Ballinabrackey ............... 1-10
St Ultan's Cortown Gaels  .......... 0-7

Under 21 C Final
Kilmainham/Drumbaragh ....... 2-9
Kilbride............................... 0-12

1 Keith Hennessy St Ultan's Cortown Gaels: Was the main reason his side stayed in contention with Ballinabrackey as he pulled off three top class saves while his kickouts were also from the top drawer.

2 Cian O'Dwyer Dunboyne: Cleaned up time and again and another to add to his senior football championship success.

3 Sean Rafferty Na Fianna: Went about his defensive duties with assured confidence and inspired his team mates around him.

4 Padraig Lavin Dunboyne: A star on the junior championship winning team and continued that form at U21 level.

5 Enda Cahill Ratoath: Made the trip home from America and was his team's best player on the day.

6 Richie Coffey Ballinabrackey: The rock at the centre of the Bracks defence as St Ultans Cortown Gaels were defeated.

7 David O'Leary Kilbride: Will wonder how he ended up on the losing side. Outstanding workrate and kicked seven very impressive points.

8 Eoin McDonnell Na Fianna: The team captain covered all of Pairc Tailteann and drove on his team at every opportunity.

9 Ronan Jones Dunboyne: Another to return from the States for the final and didn't let his team down especially in the second half.

10 Cathal Lacey Dunboyne: His goal and point in the early stages of the second half set Peters up for victory.

11 Ethan Devine Na Fianna: Probably the best performer over the four finals. Outstanding against Vincents Curraha and chipped in with 1-7.

12 Michael Murphy Dunboyne: Came on as a second half substitute and turned the game on its head with some very clever play and a goal and two points.

13 Sean Kavanagh Ballinabrackey: Tormented the St Ultans Cortown Gaels rearguard and posted five points in a very impressive display.

14 Jack O'Connor St. Vincent Curraha: One for the future. Gave the Na Fianna defence plenty to think about and kicked four points.

15 Dylan Morgan Kilmainham Drumbaragh: Impressive work rate and scored four important points in that narrow win over Kilbride.
