Convention: development of Pairc Tailteann could take place after Leinster tie

December 11, 2018

Meath warm up in front of the main stand in Pairc Tailteann.

"Nothing will be done without the consent of the clubs," was the clear message to delegates regarding the redevelopment of Pairc Tailteann, from county chairman Peter O'Halloran at last night's county convention.

O'Halloran was replying to concerns expressed by Skryne delegate Joe O'Brien who said that according to reports work was due to start on the redevelopment next May. O'Brien said he suspected that decisions had already been made and complained that clubs were not being told what was happening.

However the chairman reiterated his statements from previous Co Board meetings when he clearly told delegates that no decisions would be made without consultation.

"No decisions have been made and there will be no development until after May as we have a Leinster SFC game against Offaly to play in Pairc Tailteann on May 12th, there will be no surprises," said
O'Halloran.

The chairman also said that Operations Manager Seamus Kenny had been misquoted as to when the development might start.

The chairman said that €580,000 had been spent on the planning and tendering process which was €20,000 less than what was estimated.

Phase one of the development will cost in the region of €16m and the chairman said they should know how much they will receive in government grants by next April.

The chairman's statement that clubs will have their say regarding the development was welcomed by delegates from the Nobber and Rathkenny clubs.

Tickets sales for the Royal House Draw are at €820,000 and the chairman said he was confident they would be at €900,000 or close to €1m by the time of the first draw on December 29th.
