U15 FL Div 6: Na Fianna hit late goal to reach final

November 20, 2018

The Na Fianna U15 squad

Na Fianna: 1-05 St Mary’s: 0-7

In a similar fashion to Na Fianna’s Leinster JHC semi-final win on Saturday, their U15 Footballers needed a late James Boggan goal to get past the challenge of St Marys in Enfield on Sunday morning.

Rory Fagan opened the Na Fianna account with a well taken point while Mark Murphy narrowly missed a goal with his effort going over the bar for a point also. St Marys had the better of the play this half, but two more Na Fianna points courtesy of Jamie Doonan and a Sean McDonnell free saw the home side lead 0-4 to 0-2 at the interval.

St Marys ramped up the pressure in the second half but were guilty of a lot of missed chances as they dominated possession. Eventually Na Fianna managed to get a score through a McDonnell point, but the visitors were able to stay ahead.

Coming up to full time, Na Fianna trailed by 0-5 to 0-6, at which point a high ball into the box found its way to James Boggan who slotted it to the net. Mary’s hit a further point but it wasn’t enough as Na Fianna claimed the win to set up a final meeting with Kilmainhamwood on Sunday 2nd December.
