U21 FC: Kilbride advance to anither final

November 20, 2018

Kilbride's Joseph Donnelly

Kilbride 4-13 Slane 3-9

It been a good week for the club coming off the minor success of last Sunday, with five of that winning team on the U21 panel Kilbride were hoping to get to another u21 final having contested last year’s decider.

A lot of this team still hurting from the junior b loss at the hands of Slane were hoping to come out the right side when Kilbride and Slane renewed their rivalry in the U21 semi-final.

However early on Kilbride were down by five points having conceded 1-2 with only three minutes on the clock but with the talent that is in this team it was only a matter of time before things would change. Michael Farrell got there first score that was soon followed by an excellent point form David O’Leary.  Kilbride were starting to show there class and Joseph Donnelly brought out a fine save from the Slane keeper.  A period of dominance from Kilbride yielded nothing until Ronan O’Leary broke from deep and gather his original rebounding effort as he found the net to draw the side level with eleven minutes played. Kilbride were on top, Karl Stapleton and Sean Duffy had the
measure of the inside forwards, The centre back of Cian Harford, Dean Stapleton and Jamie McWeeney were mopping up all of the breaking ball and it was from this plat form and excellent work from minor captain Cian Harford down the left that set Joseph Donnelly free and he found the top corner from thirty Yards to put Kilbride in the driving seat.
Kilbride’s dominance continued, Donnelly again slotted home on twenty minutes but Slane came roaring back with a well taken goal. Donnelly slotted over two more quick points, the best coming in the twenty third minute when again a brilliant run from Cian Harford who brilliantly slipped the ball over to Donnelly who chipped over a fine
score.  A further point from Stephen Higgins and an excellent goal from Brendan Courtney after and excellent take from Jamie McWeeney
created the chance,  had the Kilbride lads in control as half time approached.

Half Time Kilbride 4-5 Slane 2-6

The second half was again dominated by Kilbride, David O’Leary got a great point with only a minute gone in the second half, Joseph Donnelly got two more on thirty three and on forty minutes as the gap widened and when Slane had a man sent off for a straight red there was only going to be one winner.  Sean Duffy was keeping the influential
Podge McGowan at bay as Slane continued to look for scores. They were rewarded with a goal when a missed kicked free caught out the Kilbride defence and suddenly Slane had hope. However further point from David O’Leary, Adam Malone, Michael Farrell and the final one from an excellent Brendan Courtney rounded off the scoring for the Kilbride
lads.

Kilbride: Craig Manning, Karl Stapleton, Sean Duffy, Jamie McWeeney, Dean Stapleton, Cian Harford, David O’Leary 0-4, Ronan O’Leary 1-0, Cadhla McKenna, Joseph Donnelly 2-4, Brendan Courtney 1-1,
