Camogie: Ratoath through to Leinster final

October 14, 2018

Ratoath's Fiona McNerney

Ratoath travelled to Tinahely yesterday to play in the Leinster Junior semi final against Knockananna of Wicklow. The hosts started strong with two points before Ratoath kicked into gear and got on the scoresheet after 7 minutes with a fine point by Emma Mc Gill. Ratoath then went 4 points ahead with scores from Sinead Beagan (2 frees) and Aine Mc Nerney (0-03). Knockananna then replied with 2 points of their own before Aisling O Reilly split the posts with a well taken point. Knockananna then pulled one back leaving the half time score at Ratoath 0-07 Knockananna 0-05.

Ratoath started off well in the second half with 3 unanswered points from Fiona Mc Nerney (0-02) and Sinead Beagan (1 free) which put them 5 points ahead. The remainder of the match was nail biting. Knockananna fought back and got 2 lucky goals in the space of 5 minutes which put them ahead by 1 point. Ratoath then got a goal back of their own from Fiona Mc Nerney which left Ratoath in front by 2. Knockananna won a few frees but failed to capitalise. They did get the final score though which was a point but the Ratoath girls held out til the end and won on a scoreline of 1-10 to 2-06 to get into a Leinster final in 2 weeks time.

This was a hard fought win and a team effort from everyone. There were brilliant performances from all players and subs but especially Anna Brannigan and the two Aines, Aine Cooke and Aine Mc Nerney. Maith sibh a chailíní.
