St. Michaels ladies increased their chances of a gaining a place in the semi-finals of the Masita Cup following this comprehensive victory over Ratoath in Carlanstown on Sunday evening last.

Playing a confident and energetic brand of football, the St. Michaels girls were by far the better side throughout. And while there will be stiffer opposition to face, they looked unstoppable at times as they moved the ball at lightening pace, supporting each other and picking off some impressive scores along the way.

The game got off to a lightening pace with the home side notching up 1-4 in the opening 10 minutes with points from Patricia Owens (2), Sinéad McCormack & Megan O'Brien (1 each) and a goal from Erin Lynch. Ratoath replied with four points in the same period and added a further point from a free at the end of the opening quarter to leave the home side 1-4 to 0-5 to the good. McCormack added another minor from a free before the Ratoath girls did likewise 30 seconds later. Ratoath reduced the lead to a single point on 21 minutes but they only managed another point for the remainder of the match. From here St. Michaels took full control and never looked back with Alicia Curtis and Sinéad McCormack splitting the posts and Owens and O'Brien blasting to the net for a 3-7 to 0-7 interval lead.

McCormack opened the second half with a point after two minutes and Marion Farrelly's introduction at half time had an immediate effect after she bagged her opening goal on 33 minutes and followed up with her second 8 minutes later for a 5-8 to 0-7 lead.

McCormack (3) and Farrelly (1) shared the remainder of the scoring for St. Michaels while Ratoath tried courageously to turn things around after the resumption however they struggled to put scores on the board and could only manage a further point on 49 minutes.
This was an excellent all round team display by the winners but for the second game on the trot Megan O'Brien put in a stellar performance from the throw-in until Dave Wright called her ashore for a rest in the fourth quarter.
