September 24, 2018

Trim's James Murray

Trim 2-19 Boardsmill/Rathmolyon 0-5

Trim minors emulated their Senior counterparts by reaching the county final on Sunday 7th October with a convincing victory over Boardsmill/Rathmolyon on a sunny Sunday morning in St Loman's Park.

The final scoreline was a little flattering to the home side as Boardsmill/Rathmolyon had started brightly and had the first score after six minutes of play following a tentative start by both sides. Even at half-time the visitors, though trailing by 1-8 to 0-4, may have had some hope of a second half revival.

Trim soon began to find their groove and a Mikey Cole pointed free evened up matters. Conor McKeown added another following a Ben Holden goal attempt was blocked and B/R response was immediate to level up matters once again in the eleventh minute. After that it was all Trim as the game began to open out. Dylan Farrell had a fine point from play following good teamwork and shortly afterwards a fine individual effort from the Trim full forward produced the first goal of the game.

Further points from James Murray (2), Mikey Cole, Joey Cole and Conor McKeown left Trim in a comfortable position coming up to the half time mark but two pointed frees from Boardsmill/Rathmolyon finished out the scoring.

Half Time:  Trim 1-8; Boardsmill/Rathmolyon 0-4

Trim were much quicker off the mark in the second half with a fine Dylan Farrell point in the first minute. Further points from James Murray (2), Conor Mc Keown, and Mikey Cole stretched Trim's advantage and they led by 1-13 to 0-4. The game was virtually over when James Murray found the net in the eleventh minute. Trim refused to take their foot off the pedal and it seemed that everyone was now playing for their place in the Final.

There was further points from James Murray, Mikey Cole, Dylan Farrell, Gary Fleming, and substitute Johnny McEvoy (2), with a single consolation score for the visitors in the twenty fifth minute.

This was a fine team performance from goal-keeper Calum Buckley, stout defending by the backs and fine inter play from the centre field and forwards.

So its upwards and onwards to Pairc Tailtean on Sunday October 7th. when arch rivals Killyon/Longwood will be the Final opponents following their semi final victory over Ratoath by 1-14 to 0-13.

Trim scorers: James Murray 1-5, Dylan Farrell 1-3, Mikey Cole 0-4, Conor Mc Keown 0-3, Johnny McEvoy 0-2, Joey Cole & Gary Fleming 0-1 each
