July 29, 2018

Meath's Niall Finnerty

Meath 2-11 Offaly 1-8

Meath made sure of top spot in their group with their win over Offaly in the Gerry Reilly Leinster U16 FT Round 3 game played in Ballyfore, Co Offaly on Saturday morning.

Both teams adapted well to the changed conditions with the earlier rain. Early on Meath led by 0-4 to 0-2 and it was Meath that drove on to lead at the break by 0-7 to 0-2.

Offaly made a great start to the second half with a pointed free and an Arron Byrne goal to leave the minimum between the sides. Meath's Niall Finnerty coverted a penalty after Barry Thompson was fouled in the square put Meath up by up by 4 points at this stage. When Aitzol King got Meath's second goal, it was always going to be difficult for Offaly. They did score 4 unanswered points to make a real fight of it. However it was Meath that finished the strongest with 2 late points from Pearse Sheridan.  Meath now play the runner up of Group D in the Quarter Final.
