FL Div 3: Tighe's late strike earns draw for Brigids

June 08, 2018

Dylan Tighe St. Brigids

St Brigids 3-11  Kilmainhamwood 2-13

St Brigids travelled up to home side Kilmainhamwood seeking to get back on track after facing two previous defeats. And left achieving what they came for.

An early penalty netted by Michael Flood seemed to get the Brigids off to a positive start, however Kilmainhamwood were quick to power through and respond with 2 goals of their own. At one point St Brigids were trailing by 7 points, however a goal by Tomas Blake and points by AJ Gilsenan and Dylan Scully in the closing minutes of the first half brought the Brigids to a 2 point gap of the leading homeside.

The second half seen the Brigids start with more of a dominating work ethic and the two teams managed to hold each other to within a point for the majority of the half, however an excellent kick by Dylan Tighe saw the Ballinacree men snatch the win at the end.

Kilmainhamwood Report

Wood pipped at the post

Kilmainhamwood 2-13, St Brigids 3-11

In what must go down as a superb game of football, Kilmainhamwood were narrowly edged out by their opponents in what was a pulsating game. The Wood started brightly with an excellent Stephan Kiernan point before a goal and a point put the Bridget's in the lead. However the Wood hit back quickly as Harry Corbally was fouled for a penalty which Kiernan netted. The Wood then started to get on top as Kiernan continued to kick some exquisite points. Then after 15 minutes a good run from Emmet Clarke found Kiernan with a pass who slapped it onto the on running Alan Carolan who calmly placed it into the bottom of the net. However the Brigids fought back towards the end of the half with the score 2-7 to 2-5 at the break.

The Brigids started of bright in the second half and the sides were level soon after. However Kiernans right boot kept the Wood in touch as both teams would go tit for tat in the second half. The men in Navy looked to have turned the tide with ten minutes to go but a fine Micheal Shankey point and another from Paddy Carolan pulled the Wood back in front. Two more superb frees from Kiernan who put on an exhibition of scoring (finishing with 1-10) looked to have eeked the Wood over the line. But deep into injury time The Bridgits kicked some scores to snatch a last second one point victory.

Best for the Wood were Andy Farrelly, Alan Carolan and Stephen Kiernan.

Kilmainhamwood: Damian Russell, Bernard Reilly, Philip Moran, Jude Collins, Alan Carolan (1-0), Emmet Clarke, David Carolan, Gary Yorke, Declan Reilly, David Russel (0-1), Andy Farrelly, Paul Carolan, Stephen Kiernan (1-10), Paddy Carolan (0-1), Harry Corbally. Subs Micheal Shankey for E Clarke, Padraig Barber For B Reilly, Richard Corbally for A Carolan.
