HL Div 1: Late penalty denies Trim victory

Trim were denied a win with the last puck of the game from the penalty spot in this exciting Division 1 Hurling League match played on a brilliant pitch in glorious sunshine at St Loman's park Trim on Wednesday evening. 

Neil Cole's charges had nobody to blame but themselves when the final whistle was blow as during the match they hit fourteen wides and dropped the ball short twelve times into the grateful hand of veteran Killyon keeper Stephen Quinn.

Trim got the first point on the board after just three minutes when Brian Dowling scored from play. In the tenth minute Damo McGee struck the ball to the back of the net to leave his side four point to no score ahead. Killyon then scored the next four points from play to leave matters. Then in the seventeenth minute county man Mikey Cullen scored two goals in as many minutes. Trim now led by six points and Andy Dinan made it seven with a point from play after twenty minutes of play. Killyon replied with the last two points of the half to leave five points between the sides, Trim 3-2 Killyon 0-6

Both teams traded points early on in the second half, David Murtagh and Neil Heffernan getting the Trim teams scores from play. Killyon then hit six unanswered points all from play to give themselves a one point lead with ten minutes to go. Charlie Ennis stent over an almighty point from a free deep inside his own half, a strike of just under one hundred and five meters. With eight minutes remaining Killyon held a two point advantage.

Trim responded in style. Mikey Cullen scored two points and his brother James added another to edge the home side in front. Brian Dowling put the Reds two up and then Damo McGee put three between the sides in the sixtieth minute. 

Trim could have made the game safe but Mikey Cullens whot at gaol was saved by Killyon keeper Quinn and from the resulting clearance Killyon were awarded a penalty by referee Conor Ferguson and the visitors duly netted to gain a share of the spoils
