Simonstown's Chris O'Neill

Simonstown Gaels 3-16 Summerhill GFC 1-9

Simonstown continued their rich vein of form in the B league division 1 tonight after a superb victory over Summerhill. The Gaels were clinical and each of their starting forwards contributed with scores in the game.

Simonstown began the game with 2 points from Andy Kearney and a point from Chris O'Neill. The Navan men added to their tally with a point from a free from Ben Hoey and a point from play by Shane McEnery. Summerhill responded with 2 points but this would remain their total for the remainder of the first period. The Gaels rued many wasted opportunities in the first half and should have been further ahead. James Heaney was forced to change his boots after they torn apart. Heaney was disgusted after spending 150 euro on the pair. Cormac McEvoy kindly offered his boots and Heaney quickly entered the scoresheet. Ben Hoey was inspired by Conor McManus's performance yesterday against Tyrone and he scored a stunning point near the sideline. Half Time Score was Simonstown 0-9 Summerhill 0-2.

James Heaney was delighted at half time when he inspected his boots and discovered that they were actually fine. He gave Cormac McEvoy back his boots and returned to the second half a happy player. Barry Fox got a head injury in the 40th minute and was replaced by Alex Brady. Fox was taken off as a precaution. Summerhill got a penalty straight from the re-start, fortunately from a Simonstown point of view it went over the bar. Summerhill looked reinvigorated with the introduction of Conor Gillisipe and had goal chances to narrow the gap. They converted one in the 40th minute which left 4 points between the sides. Simonstown's response was spectacular with Chris o'Neill scoring a goal created by Andrew Burlingham and Andrew Kearney. Points from Chris O'Neill, Ben HoeyAndy Kearney and Dean Curran gave the Gaels a 8 point breathing space. Chris O'Neill ended the game with a hat-trick, O'Neill's calmess and composure on front of goal was excellent.
