Davy Lynch shoots for St. Michaels as Seneschalstown's Niall Groome closes in during the Division 2 FL game at Carlanstown

St. Michaels 1-17, Seneschalstown 3-09

A powerful all round performance, full of hard intelligent running and shooting propelled St. Michaels to their second victory after this absorbing P.S. Supplies football league match played in Carlanstown.

In what was a truly entertaining game, the eventual winners performance especially in the opening ten minutes paved the way for this impressive victory over a well balanced Seneschalstown side. Top gun Shane McCormack bagged seven points, six from frees as he spearheaded his side to victory.

In that ten minute period they opened up a 1-4 to 0-1 lead, Oran Meehan and Jamie Reilly who both proved to be a handful for Seneschalstown fired over the opening two points before David Lynch drilled one past the visitors 'keeper in the third minute for the opening goal of the contest, McCormack then followed on with three from frees. Seneschalstown opened their scoring with a point after 90 seconds however they failed to find a route through the solid St. Michaels defence again until the 18th minute when they put their first major past the outstretched Darren O'Connell in the home goals. They added a further point three minutes later but St. Michaels replied immediately with a minor from Ray Reilly to put four between the sides entering the final five minutes of the half. Seneschalstown then fired over two from play before Lynch capped a good opening 30 minutes work with the final score of the half for a 1-7 to 1-4 interval lead.

McCormack found the target with one from play and another from a free in the opening five minutes of the second half and St. Michaels were fortunate a minute later when the vigilant Christopher Drew cleared off the goal line with the 'keeper well beaten, however their luck didn't last long as Seneschalstown found the back of the net with their next attack. The hard grafting Peter O'Connell replied with the first of his two points but the visitors followed up with another brace of points to leave it 1-10 to 2-6 in favour of the home side. McCormack once again hit the target, this was followed up by a well won ball by O'Connell who off-loaded to Lynch who made no mistake for a three point lead. Back came Seneschalstown with another brace of points before O'Connell and Ray Reilly split the posts for a three point lead, however the visitors were on level terms a minute later as they found the back of the St. Michaels net for the third time. St. Michaels replied immediately through Oran Meehan with two points in as many minutes, Seneschalstown added a further point but Shane McCormack completed his tally from another free in the third minute of injury time.

The entire team put in serious shift on Saturday evening and needed this victory which will give them belief in themselves ahead of their next outing with table toppers Syddan.

The club wish David Lynch a speedy recovery from an eye injury received during the game.
