Conor Sheppard Wolfe Tones

Wolfe Tones 1-13 St Colmcilles 0-9

Nuair a bhfuair Conor Sheppard cúl díreach roimh leath am chuir an scór sin Bhulf Tón 1-7 in aghaidh 0-3 chun tosaigh agus le cabhair na gaoithe bhíodar an chompordach sa dara leath.

The two teams met in round 2 of the SFC a month ago with the Seasiders emerging winners on a scoreline of 0-11 to 0-10

Playing against a home side who adopted a very defensive strategy Wolfe Tones gradually edged ahead and a second quarter which yielded 1-4 saw them go in at half time with a six point lead on a score line of 1-7 to 0-4. For the first quarter the 'Cilles defensive formation restricted scoring opportunities for the visitors and two Niall O Reilly points from distance allied to Sarán O Fionnagáins point left the Tones ahead 0-3 to 0 -2 after 15 minutes.

As Tones constantly drove forward gaps appeared and a point from Niall O'Reilly and two from Cian Ward (one free) pushed the score out to 0-6 to 0-2 before the home side responded with a point. The crucial score came in the dying minutes of the half as Cian Ward drove a high ball to the edge of the square where Fiachra Ward rose highest to tap it down to the incoming Conor Sheppard who finished to the net. Alan Callaghan followed up immediately with a fine point from distance. St Colmcilles responded with a point on the stroke of half time.

Tones opened the second half with two points in as many minutes from Fiachra and Cian Ward (free) and this in effect set the trend for the second half. Tones added a further four points to 'Cilles two by the 50th minute. St Colmcilles had the last four scores but they needed goals to get back in to the game but they persisted with a packed defense and didn't really threaten the Tones rear-guard.
