FL Div 1: First win for St. Colmcilles

March 16, 2018

James Conlon St. Colmcilles

St. Colmcilles 0-10 St. Patricks 2-3

This was an eagerly awaited clash between these two East Meath neighbours and it was the Seasiders that came away with the victory. Played in Stamullen in torrential rain and in a gale force wind, this was not a game for the faint hearted. The Cilles got off to a great start, scoring the opening 4 points from Ciarán Kelly, two from James Conlon and the fourth from Conor O'Byrne. The home side then rattled off two points from frees and were awarded a penalty on the 28th minute which they duly converted. The half time score was 1-2 to 0-4 to the home side.

The second half started much like the first, with the Cilles having the better start, scoring the first two points from Robbie McCloskey and Ciaran Kelly. St Pats got the next point from play, however the Cilles rattled off further points from Jack Reynolds and two more from Ciaran Kelly to leave the score at 1-3 to 0-9. The Cilles then managed to concede a goal from some loose play to leave the game all square at 2-3 to 0-9. This left a nervy finish for both sides, however it was the Cilles whom prevailed with the final point of the game from James Conlon, which left the bare minimum between the sides on the final whistle.

This was a much needed win for the Cilles, whom showed plenty of fighting spirit and courage to prevail against an experienced and determined St Patrick side. Up next for the Cilles in the league is a home match versus Na Fianna.
