FL Div 2: Duleek Bellewstown back on track

March 12, 2018

Stephen Nolan - Duleek Bellewstown

Duleek Bellewstown 3-13 Nobber 0-11

Duleek Bellewstown got their Division 2 ambitions back on track and came away with the spoils when overcoming Nobber in a foggy and damp Bellewstown on Sunday morning.

On a sticky pitch which was feeling the effects of the recent weather Stephen Nolan opened the scoring  from a free after two minutes which was followed almost immediately by a Jamie Crosby goal when he cut in from the right and placed the ball low to the right of the goalkeeper. Nobber then got in their stride and scored a couple of long  range point before Stephen Nolan and John Flood restored the 3 point margin.  Through the half Nobber were keeping in touch with some well worked scores   however a long range point from Shane Crosby and a point from a 45 from Anthony Dowling kept the gap between the sides. Further points from Jamie Flaherty and a Stephen Nolan free at the stroke of half time restored the margin to two points.

Now playing with the aid of a slight breeze the home team upped their pace at the start of the second half and had extended the gap to 8 points by the 40thminute. An early Stephen Nolan free was followed by a scoring burst of a goal and 2 in the space of 3 minutes. First Jack Roche pointed two quick fire points from the left hand side and following a turnover from a Nobber 45 which had fallen short the ball was worked quickly down field for Stephen Nolan to side foot home. To their credit Nobber responded with two more points from their wing forward to keep the game interesting but a massive Jamie Flaherty point from outside the 45 and a John Flood free restored the 8 point margin as the game entered the final quarter.

As Nobber drove forward in an effort to gain something from the game  opportunities for  counter attacking increased and from one of those Gary Reilly ended the game as a contest with a 3rd goal on 20 minutes and Stephen Nolan completed the scoring  soon after with another point.
