HL Div 1: Ratoath full value for win

February 19, 2018

Ratoath's Padraig O'Hanrahan

Ratoath 0-18 Killyon 1-9

Ratoath's senior hurlers were full value for their 6 point point win over Killyon in their opening league game played in Brownstown last Sunday morning.

They managed to maintain a lead over the visitors throughout the game and with Padraig O'Hanrahan unerring from frees they built up a lead in the first half which they would not relinquish. Their opponent's cause though wasn't helped when they had a man sent off for striking with only 5 minutes gone but credit to them they kept in touch with frees of their own. The Clonard side were also awarded a penalty towards the end of the first half which they duly dispatched to leave the score 0-11 to 1-3 at half time.

The second half began with the visitors enjoying their best spell as they dominated possession in midfield and defence. The intervention of subs, Daithi McGowan and Conelth McLarnon made a difference though and from halfway through the second half David O'Reilly's charges regained the initiative with points from debutant, Sean Johnson and also from Sean O'Hanrahan and Ben McGowan eventually put the result beyond doubt with 6 points separating the 2 teams at the finish.

Best for Ratoath were Sean O'Hanrahan, Sean Johnson, Sean McCann, Paddy Dowd & Niall McLarnon.
