Preview: A chance for teams to top their division

February 16, 2018

Shane McEntee, James Toher and Michelle Peel will be hoping for wins at the weekend

The Meath senior footballers, hurlers and ladies football team will see National League  action this weekend. Wins will see each team top their respective divisions going into round 4.

Allianz HL Division 2A round 3

Meath v Westmeath, Trim, 2pm Saturday

This old rivalry comes to Trim on Saturday afternoon and, going on current form, it looks a very close one to call.

Both sides have enjoyed perfect starts and it's Meath whom are currently sitting top of Division 2A with a better score difference.

However, their neighbours get the nod in this one on the basis that they edged last May's championship meeting between the two counties.

Verdict: Westmeath

Allianz FL Division 2 round 3

Cavan v Meath, Kingspan Breffni, 2pm Sunday

A mere point in score difference separates these two in the Division 2 table with Meath presently sitting above their neighbours.

Last Sunday week's 14-point victory over a Clare side which drew with Cavan in Round 1 should rightly see the Royals heading to Kingspan Breffni as slight favourites, going on form, and the bookmakers have made it so by pricing the visitors at 10/11.

Last Saturday week marked Mattie McGleenan's first win as Cavan manager on home soil in a competitive game and his new-look side won't want to go down in this derby battle which could end up going right to the wire.

Verdict: Meath

Lidl Ladies NFL Division 3 - Round 3

Roscommon v Meath, 3.30pm, St Lomans (3G), Westmeath Sunday

Meath have been in excellent scoring form so far this season, boasting a +51 points difference after two matches.

Roscommon will provide a stern examination of the Royal County's credentials, however, and the hosts will want to bounce back to winning ways after shipping five goals to Down last time out.

In an overall context, this is a key fixture as the jockeying for top four positions gathers pace.

Wexford are 3/3 in the third tier but Meath could move into top spot with a victory, while a win for Roscommon would see them firmly in the hunt for a place in the semi-finals.
