Under the guidance of Nick Fitzgerald the Meath minor hurlers enjoyed a tremendous year that finished with an All Ireland Minor B hurling championship title at Clones in late August.

Wins over Westmeath and Roscommon put them into a Leinster MHL semi final where they lost out narrowly to a very strong Dublin outfit. The young Royals beat Wicklow and repeated the win over Westmeath in the Leinster championship but came unstuck against Laois in the provincial quarter final at O'Moore Park. 

Meath's first outing in the B competition saw them destroy Sligo 14-25 to 0-6 at Trim. A very good Kildare side came to Lomans Park the following Saturday for the semi final and Meath had to withstand a second half fight back from the Lilywhites to advance to the final. Fitzgerald's charges had to hold off a very determined Down team in the second half to bring home the Peadar Lehane Cup.

Over the nine competitive games Meath had some outstanding performers, Cormac Butler (Ratoath), Vinny Ward (Rathmolyon), Adam Murphy (Kiltale), Brian Dowling (Trim), team captain Jamie Leavey (Dunderry) and Daire Gilmartin (Dunboyne) to mention but a few. We have narrowed our award down to three players.

Mikey Mullen Killyon: The Killyon star showed exceptional skill and a keen eye for scores. Always on the move looking for possession and deadly accurate from placed balls.

Nicky Potteron Kildalkey: An outstanding prospect for club and county. Brilliant skill levels and a great ability to win ball. Another with a keen eye for scores especially goals. Hit 2-4 in that All Ireland win at Tiernachs Park.

Our award goes to Evan Fitzgerald. The rising Kildalkey star drove on this team at every opportunity. When things were going against the young Royals, Fitzgerald was one of the first to stand up and fight for the cause. Hit some crucial points for the minors and also enjoyed a tremendous first season in the club senior jersey.
