Meath Scór na nÓg finals

Meath Scór winners

The atmosphere in St Mary's Community Centre Navan was buzzing as the competitors, coaches, parents/guardians, adjudicators, hall committee & the Coiste Cultúrtha  frantically put the finishing touches together before the county finals got underway at 8pm.

Unfortunately Scór has been absent in Meath for the last few years but the Coiste Cultúrtha was delighted to announce its return this year & has worked tirelessly over the past few months to encourage all clubs to participate.

Scór is a GAA competition that combines all the club colour and rivalry of Gaelic Games while promoting Ireland's language, traditional past-times and culture.

This year 9 clubs from the county participated in Scór na nÓg, namely Clann na Gael GFC, Donaghmore /Ashbourne GFC, Kilmainhamwood GFC, Nobber GFC, Slane GFC, St Brigid's GFC, St Colmcille's GFC, Trim GFC & Wolfe Tones GFC. Following an enjoyable evening's entertainment on Friday we hope to encourage all clubs to participate next year.

Competitions were held in 6 of the 7 categories on the night. The winners in each category will go forward to represent their club & county in the Leinster semi-finals on 9th December 2017 in Birr Co Offaly.

Congratulations to all of the competitors & best wishes to those going forward to the next round.

Results from the night as follows:

Amhránaíocht Aonair (Solo Singing) - Úna Ní Mhistéil, Trim GAA

Aithriseoireacht (Recitation) - Oisín Mac Duarcáin, Clann na Gael GAA

The Meath tráth na gceist competition will be held on 27th January 2018 & teams from all clubs are invited to enter, details will be circulated to clubs shortly. This will incorporate both scór na nóg and scór sinsir competitions. The winning quiz team, in each competition, will go forward to represent their club & county in the All Ireland Scór finals.

The Meath Scór Sinsir final will be held on 9th February 2018, hopefully in Gibbstown Hall. The competition categories will be Rince Foirne (Ceili or figure dancing), Amhránaíocht Aonair (Solo singing), Aithriseoireacht/Scéalaíocht (Recitation/storytelling), Bailéad Ghrúpa (Ballad Group), Léiriú Stáitse(Stage presentation), Ceol Uirlise (Instrumental Music) agus  Rince Seit (Set dancing). We ask all clubs to start rounding up the troops now for their turn to represent their club.

Once again we thank everyone who made this event happen; competitors, parents/guardians, teachers/coaches, adjudicators, photographer, St Mary's hall caretaker & committee, Mc Goldrick sound systems, RSA awards and Meath GAA.
