U15 FL: Bracks topple Killary in Dunganny

November 20, 2017

The Killary Emmets Under 15 squad.

Ballinabrackey came out on top after extra time in this highly entertaining U15 final played in Dunganny.

The Castletown/Syddan combination side drew first blood right from the throw in when Shane Carpenter won the ball and headed straight for the Ballinabrackey goals and scored a goal which was quickly followed a minute later by a point from Tomás Byrne. Ballinabrackey then settled into the game and after 9 minutes were level at 1-1 each.

Killary then had a period of dominance and scored 1-5 without reply with a goal from Sean Moyles two points from Shane Carpenter , two points from Patrick Mc Kenna and one from Jamie Hickey with  23 minutes on the clock . Ballinabrackey scored the next two points with Jamie Hickey hitting Killarys last score of the half before the bracks finished the half with 1-2  to leave the halftime score Killary Emmets 2-7 Ballinabrackey 2-4.

Seamus Doherty opened Killarys  second half scoring with a point in the first minute and a minute later he scored  a goal followed by Jack Farrelly, Rian Monaghan and substitute Evan Carry with a point each . With goals from Doherty and Carry in the 26th minute and Ballinabrackey scoring 3-7 in reply it left it all square at the fulltime whistle.

Extra time proved a step too far for Killary when they only recorded one score a goal from Seamus Doherty in the second period and by that stage the game was out of their reach with Ballinabrackey scoring 2-4 in the added 20 minutes. Killary struggled most of the game at midfield no matter who was moved to that position and

Ballinabrackeys domiance in that area proved to be their catalyst in extra time to drive them on  to victory especially with fatigue setting into Killarys players. Despite Killarys defeat they can be proud of their performance in normal time when they contributed to a very exciting final.
