Tom Parsons is backing Mayo to bounce back in 2017.

There was familiar heartache for the westerners at the end of the 2016 campaign when they were pipped by Dublin in a replayed All-Ireland SFC final but midfield powerhouse Parsons is confident that the team can regroup, put the bitter disappointment behind them and kick on again next year:

"As a group we really developed during the year and our performances got a lot better," says the Charlestown Sarsfields ace. "It was definitely promising to see that our best performances were in the All-Ireland final. Are we hugely disappointed? Yes, absolutely. It was tough to take.

"We definitely felt we performed really well and we did all the things that we talked about in training. If you want to use the term: we threw the sink at it. As it turned out we didn't win it. Now we're at a stage we've accepted it, we moved on.

"We'll analyse that game very shortly and we'll be looking to develop in 2017. If we can improve the way we improved throughout the season 2016 at the same rate in 2017, we'll be in a really good place. That's where we stand at the moment.

"Losing an All-Ireland final for any team is very disappointing and for this team it's very disappointing. But these players bounce back and already we're thinking towards 2017."
