Ballyhaunis CS         4-10
Rice College             2-12
in Connacht GAA Centre.

Ballyhaunis Community School took the spoils in this years Mayo Post Primary Junior Hurling final with a four point win over rivals Rice College in the Connacht GAA Centre. With just two minutes remaining on the clock, it looked as if Rice College would retain their title, but a late Ballyhaunis goal from substitute Evan Godfrey brought the title to the East.

Played in excellent conditions on the 3G astropark in the Connacht GAA Centre, a scorching opening half from both sets of attacks set the tone of the game. Both teams had very pacy attacks, and used the fast surface to their advantage. The opening 30 minutes saw Rice College rack up 1-9 in total with Stephen Loftus, Malcolm McEvilly, Liam Horgan, Jack Carney and Kevin Grogan getting on the scoresheet for the covies. Rice Colleges only goal of the opening half came from the stick of Gareth Jordan - whose long range effort deceived the Ballyhaunis 'keeper before nestling in the net. Ballyhaunis at the other end had their own attacking flair through Oisin Greally, Conal Hession and Ciaran Doherty (three frees) - but three goals from Liam Lavin (2) and Stephen Fallon left the half-time score at 3-5 to 1-9 in favour of the team in black.

An excellent Stephen Loftus goal for Rice College on the resumption put the minimum between the sides. Further Westport points from Gareth Jordan, Liam Horgan and Loftus again saw their side take a one point lead into the closing straight. But the introduction of Evan Godfrey for Ballyhaunis was instant as he goaled from close range, while his team-mates Keevin Murphy and Ciaran Doherty added late insurance points to bring the title East.

After the game, Jimmy Connor (Mayo GAA Coiste Iomana na nOg Chairman) presented the title to Jack Coyne - captain of the successful Ballyhaunis hurling team.
