July 30, 2015

General view of hurling.

Mayo              2-10
Roscommon  1-9
in Tooreen Hurling Grounds

The Mayo U21 hurlers bridged a 9 year gap to claim the Connacht U21 Hurling crown for the first time since 2006. Holders Roscommon came to Tooreen, but were met with an early first half goal from Mayo's Corey Scahill. Mayo went in at the break level at 1-4 to 0-7 - with the majority of the Roscommon scores coming from free-taker Cathal Kenny.

Roscommon were fastest out of the blocks on the resumption as Dylan Keaveney goaled to put the holders in front, to the delight of manager Justin Campbell. But a rally of Mayo second half scores from Fergal Boland (3), Sean Regan, Shane Nugent and a goal from Man of the Match David Kenny brought the Hogan Couriers Cup to Mayo.

After the game, Ciaran Finn - captain of the Mayo side - received the cup from sponsor Jim Hogan - sponsor of the event. Mayo - managed by Brian Finn - now go onto play Donegal in the All-Ireland U21B Quarter Final on Saturday 8th August in Letterkenny.
