Cormac Heads for the Cooley Mountains

July 27, 2015

The All-Ireland Poc Fada finals in hurling and camogie will be held on the Cooley Mountains on Saturday next August 1st. This will be the 54th running of the event in this scenic setting in County Louth. The unique GAA sporting and cultural contest promises to be a great day of sport.

Senior holder Brendan Cummins will be attempting to win an unprecedented ninth Poc Fada title senior Camogie holder Patricia Jackman will be going for seven titles in a row in her section.

For the first time ever  there will be an U16 camogie event held, to add to the U16 boys hurling competition.

This competition will offer hurlers from Sligo, Tyrone, Roscommon, Laois, Offaly, Down, Louth, Limerick and Clare an opportunity to win an All-Ireland medal the very same as the medal that will be won in Croke Park in September.

At U16 hurling level no competitors from the so-called stronger counties won through at the provincial stages, with contestants from Kerry, Mayo, Derry and Laois overcoming their illustrious neighbours. Proceedings on the day will get under way at 11.30am.

It will be a monumental occasion for young Ballyhaunis hurlers Cormac Phillips who will head to Louth after winning the Connacht GAA and Mayo GAA Poc Fada events in recent weeks. Cormac is no stranger to individual competitions within the hurling ranks, having represented Mayo GAA in the past at National Feile na nGael Skills competition events.  Cormac is a student of Ballyhaunis Community School and is also a member of the Mayo GAA U16 and U15 hurling development panels.
