Mayo's 26-point demolition of Sligo in the Connacht SFC final had people reaching for the record books.

Surprisingly, the 6-25 to 2-11 victory wasn't the biggest winning margin Mayo have enjoyed over their neighbours in championship football. Way back in 1949, the margin was 29 points - 7-10 to 0-2 - when the sides met in the Connacht SFC semi-final at Ballina.

Star of the show on that occasion was Mayo full forward Peter Solan, who bettered Aidan O'Shea's tally of 3-4 with a remarkable 5-2 from play.

Yesterday witnessed the most one-sided Nestor Cup decider since 1967 when Mayo cruised to a 4-15 to 0-7 victory over Leitrim.
