Sunday will be a big day for Tom Parsons who starts his first championship game for Mayo in five years.

The Charlestown man will partner Seamus O'Shea against Galway in Pearse Stadium after getting the nod from new Mayo joint-managers Noel Connelly and Pat Holmes. A member of the Ireland International Rules squad in 2008, Parsons has been given the opportunity to relaunch his inter-county career after spending a lot of time on the bench during James Horan's tenure.

Introduced as a substitute against Kerry in last year's All-Ireland semi-final replay, he marked his return to the starting line-up by kicking three points against Cork in this year's Allianz League. That was his first start in the league in almost a year.

Another player who looks set to enjoy a 'second coming' under the new management is veteran goalkeeper David Clarke, who has unseated Rob Hennelly to start his first championship game in two years.
