Mayo defender Colm Boyle admits that games against Galway always have a special meaning for his family.

Boyle's mother is from Galway and so the banter is always at fever pitch when the two old rivals meet and even more some when its championship time.

The sides meet in the Connacht SFC semi-final on Sunday afternoon and Boyle admitted to the Western People that he is really looking forward to the game.

"Mayo and Galway games are always special and especially in our house. My mother is from Galway so all her side would be Galway supporters but in fairness to them over the last few years, once we've got over Galway they've been fully behind us, well that's what they've been telling me anyway," he joked.

The former All-Star added: "We're really looking forward to this championship. We haven't had a game for something like eleven or 12 weeks and that's the biggest break we've had between league and championship for years."

Boyle stated: "The hunger is a great as ever. It took a while to get over last year's defeat but then we were waiting for new management to be put in place and then we were waiting for the call to come in again and get going and straight away we were up and running and it was like we never left it."
