Sparklin' Larkin Hits Hat-trick for Tooreen

May 06, 2015

Tooreen      4-12
Westport    2-9

A second half hat-trick of goals from Tooreens Ray Larkin was the difference between the sides as Tooreen raced to a nine point victory over Westport in the opening round of the Mayo GAA Senior Hurling League - The Genfitt Cup.

Tooreen struggled against the strong breeze in the opening half but points from Daniel Harrison, Stephen Hunt (2) and Cathal Freeman (3) kept the home side intact. Westport went in at the break with a 0-7 to 0-6 lead.

The second half saw a resurgence in the Tooreen attack with a goal within the opening minute with a neat ground stroke from Stephen Hunt. Westport replied almost instantly as a brace of goals within a minute from Ronan Hehir and Conor Ryan put them back in the driving seat. But it was Larkin's touches in the second half which brought the league points to Tooreen as he goaled in the 9th, 11th and 29th minute of the second half to record a hat-trick of goals from close range.
