Mayo defender Kevin Keane is confident that new talent has been found during the NFL campaign.

The Connacht side just missed out on a NFL semi-final spot having drawn with Donegal last Sunday, but Keane told the Western People that they got what they wanted out of the league.

"Noel and Pat said at the start of the year that their aim was to use the league to blood new players, and they've done that," said Keane.

"The likes of Patrick Durcan and Stephen Coen have got their first taste of real intense senior football. That's what the league is all about. Obviously, you want to get to the tail end of it but if it doesn't work out, it's not the end of the world.

"I think we've used it very well and have been very wise in our approach to it all year. So, we'll have a week off and then get back into it next week to start championship preparations hell for leather."
