Brian Hurley fisted to the net in the last minute to give Cork a 2-7 to 0-12 victory over Mayo at Pairc Ui Rinn and a place in the semi-finals.

The visitors seemed to have done enough to secure a win when Kevin McLoughlin and Stephen Coen, in the 64th and 66th minutes respectively, edged them into a two-point lead but Hurley had the last say as he latched onto a Conor Dorman pass to find the net and confirm the Leesiders' passage to the last four.

After the Rebels had opened impressively by notching a goal and two points, Mayo battled back well and built up a 0-7 to 1-3 interval lead.

Mark Collins capitalised on a mistake in the Mayo defence to register the early goal after Hurley and Colm O'Neill had pointed but Cork would then go 25 minutes without a score while the Connacht champions hit seven successive points courtesy of Tom Parsons (2), Jason Doherty ('45'), Danny Kirby, McLoughlin (free), Mark Ronaldson and Donal Vaughan.

Hurley's second point of the match closed the first-half scoring but Mayo made a bright start to the second half when Aidan O'Shea lofted over a fine point from play.

Fintan Goold, Dorman and O'Connor (free) had the hosts ahead with 20 minutes left, 1-6 to 0-8, but Parsons and Doherty replied before a brilliant Goold point levelled the scores for the fourth time with twelve minutes left. Cork would only score once more, but it would be the defining score of the match…
