Former Armagh and Crossmaglen star, Oisín McConville, will headline a seminar on Player Welfare, Health and Wellbeing later this month in an event to formally launch Mayo GAA's new Health and Wellbeing Initiative.

Chairman of the Committee, Seamus Touhy, is keen to see all clubs in the county take the opportunity to come along to hear about the work they propose to do:
He told a recent local media briefing, "We're delighted that Oisín has agreed to speak at the event. He has a fascinating and inspirational story to tell and it's something we can all learn from," said the Breaffy clubman "The seminar is open to all GAA members in the county, and indeed interested members of the general public."

Other speakers at the event to be held on Friday 27th March in Breaffy House Hotel at 8 pm include Sean Moffat, Mayo Team Doctor, Liam Moffat, Mayo Team Physio, All Ireland Minor winning captain Stephen Coen and Mayo County Board Chairman Michael Connolly.

The introduction of Health and Wellbeing committees into the GAA's structures was adopted at Annual Congress in Derry in 2013 following a motion from Tyrone GAA. The initiative aims to assist Clubs in identify with and responding to the wellbeing needs of their members, both directly through GAA health-related programmes such as the Alcohol and Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) programme, the GAA Social Initiative, the RESPECT Initiative, the 'Live to Play' road safety initiative, and the Play in my Boots mental health resource. It will also involve signposting to and partnering with, relevant national and local agencies who can provide services that may be of use to Club members, such as Samaritans, who are the GAA's new mental health partners.
