The Cycle For Life mantra for 2015- Mind your heart. Love your mind.

The launch of Cycle For Life 2015 took place in DCU on Monday.

The event from July 31st to August 9th of this year is a 1200KM charity cycle over 10 days passing through all 32 counties in Ireland.

The initiative was founded by former Dublin minor and U21 hurler Cormac Ryan after his close call with death due to an undetected cardiac condition,

It first took place in 2013 and raised €35,000 for the Irish Heart Foundation, Cardiac Risk in the Young and The Cormac McAnallen Trust as well as creating a significant awareness of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome.

The condition, diagnosed in February 2012 left Ryan with a pacemaker implanted in his chest and under the medical advice to give up gaelic games. A year later, at the age of 19, Ryan 1100KM cycled around the country and later rejoined the Dublin U21 hurling panel for 2013 and 2014.

The event this year includes a new fourth charity, Aware.

In October 2014 Ryan went public on his battle with depression in an interview with Damian Lawlor in the Sunday Independent and a further interview on Ireland AM.

The aim is to continue this work by means of promoting not just physical health but mental health with the Cycle For Life initiative.

Ryan gave his first ever talk on mental health to 5th and 6th year students on Tuesday last in Portmarnock Community School.

The goal of the whole event, to save as many lives as possible from undetected cardiac conditions as well as promoting positive mental health.
