James Horan is predicting a tough summer for his former Mayo charges.

Horan led Mayo to four successive Connacht senior football championships but he points out that the gap is narrowing in the province and expects both Galway and Roscommon to put it up to the holders this summer - although he would still "bet heavy" on his native county retaining the Nestor Cup:

"It's early in the season but it has the feel that Connacht football is on the rise," he writes in The Irish Daily Star. "There's an obvious trend with Roscommon in the last few years and there's a bit more energy about Galway this year.

"Mayo will get it tough this summer. They've got to go and play Galway in Galway, who will likely have two games under their belt, against New York and Leitrim.

"Mayo still have a slight advantage and you'd bet heavy on them to drive on.

"The Corofin players are sure to give Galway a jolt when they return after the All-Ireland club final on March 17 and they'll add to what is an already buoyant camp."
