Joint Mayo managers Noel Connelly and Pat Holmes celebrate the final whistle in the 2006 Cadbury All-Ireland U21FC final against Cork - INPHO

Mike Connelly is the new chairman of the Mayo county board.

Connelly, from the Hollymount/ Carramore club, is a brother of Noel Connelly, who was recently appointed joint-manager of the Mayo senior football team along with Pat Holmes.

He replaces Paddy McNicholas who decided not to seek re-election after he came under fire for his mishandling of the Mayo senior team management process which led to the resignation of fellow executive members Michael Diskin and Gerry Bourke.

McNicholas, however, remains on the executive after he was elected delegate to the Connacht Council along with Gerry Bourke.

Addressing delegates at yesterday's county convention at the Park Hotel in Kiltimagh, the new chairman hit out at those who had questioned his candidacy in light of his brother's appointment.

"All I can say to those people is they don't know me and they don't know my family," he said.

As expected, a motion calling for every All-Ireland senior semi-final and replay in both football and hurling to be played in Croke Park was passed.
