Mayo footballer Richie Feeney was amongst 28 athletes to receive a sports scholarship from NUI Galway recently.

At a ceremony held in the University last week, the Castlebar Mitchels clubman was amongst the 28 who range across 13 different sports to receive the prestigious accolade.

Feeney is returning to full time education having worked for the CBE Concannon Group for a number of years.

He is one of six Gaelic footballers to receive the scholarship as Galway footballer Damien Comer and Mayo minor Eoin O'Donoghue were also honoured.
